Caring about your people

This friend and I used to work at the same company and we went out because the same problem: the lack of caring about people.

We both started at low positions and we began to climb, but as we did we saw the same problems, they didn’t care about us and no one on our teams. People often told us the same exact things, I don’t like this, I don’t like that, I think we should change this, but when we tried to do it we always saw a wall and no one to go.

Now we’re both gone, I went out first and she went out two months after. I don’t know about me, but they (the company) started to talk shit about her, saying she stole ideas, telling lies to clients about her resignation and people inside, when I heard that I went crazy I couldn’t believe a company could to something like that to someone that talented that gave a lot to the company.

I really think that caring about your people is the biggest perk in a company, when I became team leader my goal was to make everyone on my team to resign, because they grew too much and what they’re doing is not fit for them no more and they want something more challenging.

As a company you don’t own anyone, everyone could leave at any time they want and you should respect that decision and you should support them, because at the end, they’re gonna be out there talking about your company in a good or bad way.

Sometimes I think that companies forget that without the employees they’re nothing, and you should protect them, challenge them, find them a good place and make them feel that they’re part of something.

Eventually if you don’t listen to your people you’ll become the Maggie’s Farm and as Dylan says in that song they’ll eventually say: I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s Farm no more

If you stand for nothing Burr, what’ll you fall for?
